I just caught the end of the press conference to welcome the Archbishop to Stoke, so here are some extracts:
On violence
The causes are universally known. There is a pattern. I believe it is possible to turn the tide.
On extremism (the BNP)
We live mainly on stereotypes and we forget that one of the worst things was the Holocaust. Because things are not OK at home we look to blame people. My Foundation is saying that you needn’t allow yourself to be hoodwinked.
What can you say to the deprived communities?
The first thing is they don’t deserve to be there. But you will make it.
We were told that we were inferior, and then we produced a Nelson Mandela and everyone went absolutely gaga!
